This week’s selection comes from a time when I was painting beer bottles and surprised self-portraits in the garage where I was living with one of my best friends. He’s a brilliant writer who could also draw, but wanted to learn to paint. So I’d paint and show him some tricks while we drank and smoked too much and we listened to music. We would also drunkenly lament the directionlessness of our lives, conversations that ultimately led to my teaching career and his Law practice.

This all coincided with the release of one of the greatest albums of the last 20 years, at least in our estimation. Though this is also one of those artists that can do wrong, every album they release is a masterpiece.

But the ultimate reason for this week’s selection, Skip Divided by Thom Yorke of Radiohead fame, is because it somehow became an ear-worm this week leading to my students being forced to listen to a best of Radiohead/Thom Yorke listening party where one student astutely asked, “what genre of music is this?!”

I don’t know guy, I don’t know.
