He knows what he is talking about and is able to get us to understand it as well.

Art! This course was a reawakening of my love of art as a hands on approach. I haven't felt this inspired and engaged in 2D non-digital visual arts since my art classes in junior high. I'm 31 years old now so that should speak for itself. My incredible experience was due to the time, effort, and guidance provided by Professor David Chatfield.

{
{

As a student who has been in the world of art from a young age, I thought I knew almost everything I needed to know technique-wise. This was me being short-minded as I learned a lot in David's class. I would gladly recommend any of David's classes to anyone interested in art.

Tough but fair.

{
{

What I liked best was the amount of materials we got to try out and work with as well as learning new techniques and tricks. I appreciated that he was someone who preferred quality over it being on time obviously that didn't mean turning in every assignment late but as someone who is trying to balance taking four other classes sometimes you fall behind and knowing I can take an extra day or so to get an assignment done rather than rushing is really appreciated.

I really enjoyed taking this class! David Chatfield gave very helpful demos that have taught me techniques that improved my drawing immensely this semester. It seemed like David also was intuitive on what our class needed, whether we needed extra studio time for assignments or when we needed some helpful examples or demos, it never felt too tightly structured. David is super knowledgeable, helpful, and approachable. His class was an absolute gem!

{
{

The course was always chill, and never heavy to sit through, it's quick, and pretty straightforward.

{
{

My only wish is that the semester was longer, so we could learn more!

{
{

Throughout the course, Professor Chatfield consistently exercised unshakeable patience and gentle wisdom through his words and actions. There was never a time I felt belittled or manipulated in this course. In addition, Professor Chatfield has made extra effort to incorporate my attendance purely by means of WebEx video conferencing. This extra effort has allowed me to attend class even though I am 7 hours away in Cortez, Colorado. I am unable to attend campus-only courses due to a disability which restricts travel to what is absolutely necessary and no more. For this reason, I am eternally grateful for allowances made to attend classes remotely.

{
{

This course allowed me to interpret art way better than I ever imagined. Especially seeing it and understanding it more creatively.

{
{

I really like that he knew what he was talking about and showed a passion for what he was teaching.

{
{

The process of making a drawing from start to finish that we were taught was very relaxed but effective. I also liked how the instructor encouraged everyone/made sure we all knew we had the potential to make great art.

{
{

We all enjoyed the art projects because the professor did too. He made it a fun learning environment and threw in modern elements with the older material to keep things interesting and inclusive.
